While there may be plenty of pros and cons to changing the SP system from a gameplay mechanics standpoint the overwhelming view of the playerbase is that we like it the way it is.
By and large, we like the fact that a character with 100M SP was deliberately cultivated for several years by one or more players who actively managed the character's training rather than just generated in an instant by a few credit card transactions (Note also the 100M SP club thread). Also, keep in mind that part of CCPs business model with EVE isn't just enticing new players to join but also encouraging old players to buy additional accounts.
You'll rarely find a topic in EVE that carebears, pvpers, solo, and group-players alike will stand side-by-side to ardently defend. We've all run into situations where we wish we had more SP than we do, but I feel safe in saying that most of us wouldn't have it work any other way.
Question is tho, do we all defend it out of some basic human emotion, call it jealousy as in, we had to wait 5 years so now you shall too or is it because we feel that newbs flying Titans would actually wreck the game? Because by allowing toons to be sold through the character bazaar newbs could already be in Titans.. Just like buying a toon doesn't grant you the connections and player skill to be successful at EVE, I don't think selling SP would really affect that either. I do believe it should be limited to a certain amount/toon. The longer I look at it objectively, the stronger I get convinced that protectionism and jealousy play a large role in resisting making life easier for new players.
I am playing the devils advocate now, personally I wouldn't change it either but I am trying to be open minded here and as I said, it should be a set amount max/toon, enough to grant it a good start at whatever field you want the toon to excel in.
Reopen the EVE gate so we can invade Serenity. Goons can go first. |
